Hello, OCS Family! Thank you for a great week at OCS and for your continued support and flexibility as we adapt to changing weather conditions. Read below for all the latest news and updates from the district!

HCMS Adoption

This week, two schools in Onslow County celebrated their new and ongoing partnerships with local military units through the Adopt-a-School program.

The Adopt-a-School Program promotes mutually beneficial relationships between the military and schools by allowing military units to “adopt” a school. Units support schools through volunteerism and mentorship, while schools can show their support for their unit during the holidays and during times of deployment.

On Tuesday, September 19, just before a home football game, Hunters Creek Middle School held a rededication ceremony in honor of its 6-year-long relationship with 1st Battalion, 10th Marines. And on Thursday, September 21, Northside High School and Marine Aircraft Group 26, of MCAS New River, celebrated and made official their new partnership.

Onslow County Schools now has 27 schools participating in the Adopt-a-School program, with several more waiting to be matched to local military units. Our relationships with our military community are an invaluable asset to our students and staff, and we are proud to continue welcoming service members into our schools for years to come.

Congratulations to the Panthers and Monarchs!

Northside Adoption

Dr. Barnes visited NBMS for Constitution Day

Throughout this week, schools across Onslow County have celebrated Constitution Day.

Formally celebrated on September 17, Constitution Day is a federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and its importance to us all as U.S. citizens.

On Friday, OCS Chief Academic Officer Dr. Chris Barnes stopped by New Bridge Middle School to speak with Mr. Stoneham’s 8th grade social studies class about the Constitution and what it means for them as students and future voting citizens.
