  • Parent Survey for Returning to Plan A

Posted by Willie Jarman on 10/26/2020

    Parent Interest Survey

The purpose of this survey is to gather information for planning. It is not a registration or enrollment form and does not commit your student to in-person or virtual learning.

Currently, the Governor’s executive order and the NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) requires school districts to remain in Plan B for students in grades 6-12.  OCS’s Plan B includes two days per week of in-person instruction with Cohort A attending on Mondays and Tuesdays and Cohort B attending on Thursdays and Fridays. In addition to in-person learning, OCS also offers Onslow Virtual School (OVS), which is the virtual option required by the executive order.

Although the state has not determined whether students in grades 6-12 will transition to Plan A and be able to attend school five days per week, or remain in Plan B for the second semester, OCS would like to know what you would choose for your student if options are available.  Therefore, we are surveying parents of secondary students to determine the level of interest in transferring into or out of an in-person setting for the second semester, which begins on January 5, 2021.  Information from the survey will be used to inform district planning efforts. If the district plan includes options for transitioning between in-person and virtual settings, you will be asked to complete an official choice and commitment form.

Thank you for completing this survey and helping us collect information that will inform OCS options for parents and students.

  • Federal Cards and Attendance

Posted by Willie Jarman on 9/13/2020 5:30:00 PM

This week we will be sending Federal Cards home.  This is very important for federal funding to the Onslow County Schools.  Cohort A students will receive Federal  Cards on Monday, 9/14, and should return them on Tuesday, 9/15.  Cohort B students will receive Federal Cards on Thursday, 9/17, and should return them on Friday, 9/18.

In order to accurately track daily attendance, ALL STUDENTS must react to the daily attendance post in their HOMEROOM Team.  This must be completed every school day, whether it is a Face-to-Face or Remote Learning day. Teachers will have the daily attendance post by 7:30 and students should react to the post by 8:00 for the Daily Attendance check.  The Insights app in Teams will track more specific details about student activity and completion of assignments in all the other Teams and that will allow for adjustments to the daily attendance if needed.

It is hard to believe we have completed 4 weeks of school already.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have implemented safety precautions and developed practices to address face-to-face and remote instruction.  We will continue to move towards more synchronous learning for students over the next few weeks.

Thank you again for your support!

  • Remote Learning

Posted by Willie Jarman on 8/24/2020

Unclear on what to do at home this week?

Teachers should have posted assignments in Teams or sent home assignments for students that are participating remotely. It may be limited assignments due to the delay in Teams working/talking to PowerSchool and completing diagnostics this week. We appreciate your patience as we work through these issues this week.

Beginning next week, teachers will be posting the Week-at-a-Glance (WAG) on the teacher pages on the TMS website. This will be a great tool in communicating with parents and students about what they should be doing when at home and at school.

  • i-Ready Diagnostics and Facebook Page

Posted by Willie Jarman on 8/23/2020 6:00:00 PM

Thank you for a great first week of school!  The adjustment to the requirements of screening, social distancing and face covering was very smooth and much quicker than anticipated.  Your trust and faith in our staff to follow unfamiliar procedures was encouraging and gives us confidence that we all can overcome this challenge together.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING!

This week we will be focusing on Math and ELA i-Ready Diagnostics.  This will allow the students to access the program for individualized instruction on face-to-face and remote learning days.  Ear buds/headphones are needed when using the i-Ready program in group settings. Please remember to bring your own earbuds/headphones to school every day. We have a set that will be given to a student if needed.

The Counseling Team, Mrs. Ford and Mrs. Wilson, have created a Trexler Middle School Facebook page to help communicate information from school to the parents and community.  You can access this by searching Trexler Middle School Richlands NC from Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/TrexlerFalcons/?modal=admin_todo_tour

  • Welcome Back Information

Posted by Willie Jarman on 8/15/2020

Monday, August 17th, will be the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.  We have posted information on the Trexler website to inform and remind you of guidelines and procedures we will be following.  This information is under the Trexler Reopening for 2020-2021 tab on the home page and includes: the TMS student handbook,  a Commuter flow map, Arrival and Dismissal procedures, Covid-19 screening questions, Master schedules for the school day, The online school fees Link, and the Trexler Reopening for 2020-2021 quick glance plans.  You can also access the Onslow County Schools Return to Learn Information which includes the OCS Return to Learn Parent Guide.

I want to emphasize a few important things to know for the first week of school.  Students will be screened before they get out of the cars and off the bus.  Any walkers will be screened, as well, before entering the building.  Please use the screening questions before you leave home with  your child/children.  This will help speed up the screening process when you arrive at school.  If anyone in your home can answer yes to one or more of the questions, please, stay home!

Face coverings are required for all students to enter the buildings.  There are no exceptions the first week of school to this requirement.  A written request for an exemption with the reason for an exemption must be submitted to administration for review.  We will not approve any requests during the first week students are back on campus.

The building will not be open to parents and visitors during arrival and dismissal times.  All staff will be in duty stations to monitor students and direct them to their classrooms upon arrival.  We will not be able to address questions, concerns or requests until the students are in their classrooms and the school day has started.  I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause for those who have issues, questions and concerns, but we will be all hands on deck to get students screened and in the classrooms.

We have never started school under these circumstances, but we are a resilient community and have worked together to get through the last 2 school years of things we have never experienced before.  I have faith we will rise to this challenge as well.

Thank you for your support and understanding and have a great weekend!

  • Schedules and Cohorts

Posted by Willie Jarman on 8/8/2020 12:00:00 PM

Information for the 2020-2021 school year will be mailed Monday, August 10th.  This information will include the student schedules and cohort assignments.  We understand the challenges of reopening on Plan B, and have made adjustments to fulfill as many cohort requests that we could.  We will continue to work with you and make adjustments to cohort assignments as the schedules will allow, but please understand that cohort numbers have to stay balanced in order to maintain the social distancing requirements.

A request to change a cohort group may require a change from another student before it can be made.  For example, If you request to change from cohort A to B, we may also need a change from cohort B to A in order to fulfill that request.

The Onslow County Schools website has Federal, State and OCS guidelines for Reopening school. https://www.onslow.k12.nc.us/Page/36654  It includes a Return to Learn Parent Guide that presents the protocols and procedures developed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.  The specific details for Trexler are derived from this guide and will be available to all Trexler stakeholders next week.

We are taking steps to provide a safe, socially distant reopening.  The physical classroom space and school procedures will look much different than they have in the past.  Safety precautions will be enforced to limit the amount of exposure students and staff have with other students and staff.  Returning to school will be very structured and controlled to maintain social distancing expectations.  It will feel restrictive and even uncomfortable, but we will persevere and work together to make these new guidelines work.

Thank you for your continued patience and have a great day!
