Ms. Arnold

Welcome everybody to third grade! My name is Ms. Arnold. I'm originally from Okinawa, Japan. But moved around a lot as a child of the military before we settled here in Jacksonville, NC where I grew up. I went on to graduate with honors from East Carolina University in 2018. This will be my second-year teaching. Last year I was at Hunters Creek Elementary teaching third grade. Therefore, some of you may recognize my face from around the school. I'm very excited for this opportunity to teach completely virtual and look forward to working with all of you!

Welcome!

  • What will a school day consist of?

    Posted by:

Students will have a mix of virtual meeting and independent work to be completed throughout the day. Currently teachers are being told to plan for 90 mins of virtual face to face instruction for all subjects combined and 90 mins of independent work. Students will also be given office hours for me to be able to quickly answer questions about content. In addition, a two-hour block is scheduled for small group instructions. But not every student will attend small group instruction every day and not for the whole two-hour block. They will be assigned a group and days that they will login for small group. Lastly, students are scheduled an hour "break" in the middle of the day for lunch.

  • How should my child contact you if they have a question about an assignment during the day?

    Posted by:

Students are more than welcome to message the Teams page for class related questions any time during the day. My office hours (which will be posted on our daily schedule) will be the best time for me to be able to respond quickly, but they can also message me at other times of the day.

  • What if my child is sick?

    Posted by:

In terms of turning in daily work, if a sick child is feeling up to it, they are welcome to still work on it at home. If not, they can work on it during the additional daily work time provided each day in the days after when they are feeling well again.

  • When's the best time to schedule a parent/teacher conference?

    Posted by:

I am happy to work within anyone's schedules. I understand life and work can be rather hectic. If you would like to set up a time with me, please just email me or leave a message on Class Dojo. My available times to hold conferences are between 7:30am-8:30am before school and 3:30pm-5:30pm after school. My afterschool availability is dependent on if I have precious engagements in place such as staff meetings.

  • How will contact work between parents and teacher?

    Posted by:

Our class will have a ClassDojo account that will be used to send out notifications and reminders to parents/guardians. Also, parents and guardians will be able to monitor the points your child earns and loses in class. Microsoft Teams will be used for parent-teacher conferences. Emails can be exchanaged if anyone is unable to access Class Dojo for notifications/reminders.
