I am so thrilled to welcome you back to school. We have had two years of interrupted learning. But this year we will be meeting our children with more challenges than ever before as we work together to stabilize learning. Karrie Helt and I, along with your remarkable teaching staff, will continue our commitment to building strong classroom communities. Taking time each day for students to connect, converse, and engage with each other and their teachers are important. We want to build joyful relationships with our children. Our kids will be diving into some really tough learning! We want them to know, we are with them all the way.
For our parents, we want to share that we are with you too. Your part in your child's school experience will be critical. Show your child that you respect and value their teacher and their education. Tell them daily that they make you proud. If they struggle, remind them that is what they are supposed to be doing; that is how they learn.
Helt and I will be sharing our cell phone numbers via ClassDojo as soon as school starts. Please reach out to us if we can help. We are setting the bar high this year and we expect every child to rise!
Betsy Castle, your proud principal
I am proud to introduce myself as your Southwest Elementary School Principal. My name is Elizabeth (Betsy) Castle. I am a strong believer in setting the bar high and empowering children to rise up and meet challenges. At Southwest Elementary, we seek to engage our children in learning that expands their minds and challenges them daily. We support our children in their acquisition of resilience, patience, and commitment to success. We also have a good time! Our children are given many opportunities throughout the school year to participate in field trips that bring classroom experiences to life! Our classrooms are lively learning environments modeled on flexibility and creativity to meet each child's needs.
We are committed to serving you and your student and are proud to have you as part of our family!
I am from Raleigh, NC. I attended Lenoir-Rhyne University for my undergraduate degree, Indiana University Bloomington for my Master's, and ECU for my Master's in Administration and Curriculum. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, building things, hanging out with my family, cooking, and visiting new places. My husband and I have two daughters, both in Onslow County Schools. We also have a bunch of fur babies! We have four dogs, three cats, seven chickens, and one horse. We are proud to call Onslow County our home!
