Ms. Clovene Whitby

Welcome to OVS!

My name is Clovene Whitby. I was the third child, born into a family of educators. My father was a highschool math teacher who later became a principal and my mother became an elementary teacher by the time I was in 4th grade.  When I graduated highschool I received the Presidential Academic Scholarship Award to attend Campbell University. I decided, however, after my freshman year, to transfer to East Carolina University. I graduated from ECU in 1989 with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Mathematics.

After graduating, I moved to Aberdeen, Maryland and worked for the US Army as a Data Technician for 2 years. My job required me to monitor testing on M-1, A-1, and T2 tanks, FMTB trucks, and generators. It was a very interesting job, but I missed the beach.

My first four years as a teacher were spent in Warren County at Warren County Middle School near extended family, but soon after, found myself wanting to be near home and family. Originally from Carteret County, I set my sights on the beach and found my new home here in Onslow County teaching at Southwest Middle. I've been here for the past 24 years and don't see myself leaving Onslow County any time soon! I look forward to a new adventure teaching at OVS!
