Mr. Greg Shreckengost

Mr. Greg Shreckengost is originally from New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school in 1993, he attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he studied music education and performance. He later transferred to Clarion University, where he finished a Bachelor of Science in Music Education in 2004. He started his teaching career in Onslow County Schools in 2005, teaching chorus and general music at Dixon Middle School in Holly Ridge, North Carolina. In 2007, Mr. Shreckengost transferred to Richlands High School to teach Instrumental music. The Richlands High School band program has enjoyed many Excellent and Superior ratings in Concert Band, Marching Band and Jazz Band performances. Over the years, the school has established a thriving guitar class for beginning and intermediate level players and just this past year, a piano lab was created for beginning piano.

Mr. Shreckengost served as President of the North Carolina Music Educators Association’s District 14 and the 9/10 All District Auditions and Clinic Chair for the Eastern District Bandmasters. He has also served as the Fine and Performing Arts Department Chair for Richlands High School.  He has been the guest conductor for the 2019 Holiday Concert Season for the Onslow Winds Community Band and the clinician for the 9/10 Onslow County Honors Band in 2021. In 2022, Mr. Shreckengost served as the North Carolina Bandmasters Eastern District 9/10 Honors band clinician held on the campus of The University of North Carolina- Wilmington.

Outside of his school life, Greg is the Music Director at Northwoods United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing guitar. Mr. Shreckengost lives in Jacksonville with his wife Joy, and children Sara, Daniel, and Callie.

Mr. Shreckengost holds affiliations with the North Carolina Bandmasters Association Eastern District, North Carolina Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity Inc.

He was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania about halfway between Pittsburgh, PA  and Lake Erie. He has been playing the Baritone Horn/ Euphonium and has been involved in music since 1984. After graduation from high school, Greg went on to study Music Education and performance at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (1993-1998). Mr. Shreckengost holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania (2004).

Instrumentally, Mr. Shreckengost has played in Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Pit Orchestra, Community Bands , County, District, Regional and State Bands. He has also participated in several small ensembles: Brass Quintet, Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, Euphonium Quartet, Brass Choir, Low Brass Ensemble and Trombone Choir. Mr. Shreckengost has been the Assistant Marching Band Director for Redbank Valley High School (2000 & 2001) in New Bethlehem, PA; Director of Bands at Union Hill High School, Union City, NJ (2005); most recently the Director of Bands at Richlands High School, Richlands, NC (2007-2022). Mr. Shreckengost is the Music Director at Northwoods United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, NC (2015-present).

Mr. Shreckengost has also directed several musicals, which include: Cinderella, The Sound of Music, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Les Misérables, AIDA, Thoroughly Modern Millie, High School Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie and Snow White and the Prince.
