My College Story

I attended The Mico University College where I earned my Bachelor of Education in Special Education. During my university years, I had the opportunity to observe, co – teach and teach children with exceptionalities at the Salvation Army School for The Blind & Visually Impaired, Jamaica Association of Children with Learning Disabilities and The Windsor School of Special Education. I also spent my community hours volunteering at these institutions as a teacher’s assistant.

Past Teaching Experience

After graduating, I became a staff member at The Jamaican Association on Intellectual Disabilities  (JAID), teaching at The Windsor School of Special Education. I was a 4th grade teacher for 2 years at this institution. I taught students with various disabilities: Down’s Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy and Learning Disabilities. I also wrote and coordinated poetry pieces for the students who entered the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) competition.

Current Teaching Position

Fortunate to be a young educator, I moved to Jacksonville, North Carolina, from my beautiful home, Jamaica, to garner experience in a different educational setting. Joining the Onslow County Schools, I became an Adaptive Exceptional Children teacher at Northside High School. In my first year of teaching, I had the priviledge of being an assistant softball coach.

Other Interests

I am not only passionate about teaching, I also enjoy nature, poetry, painting, singing, photography, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

My Teaching Philosophy

'Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.' - Margaret Mead

A student-centered approach to teaching allow students to take responsibility for their own learning and self-development.
