Mrs. Dedra Adams

Hey!!!   I'm Dedra Adams and a native of Jacksonville, NC.  My husband and I have three wonderful children who have become young adults and Four busy grandchildren.  I have taught privately for eleven years and in the Onslow County Public School System for sixteen years.  I have a BS in Elementary Education and certified to teach Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. Having served as a director of a childcare facility has allowed me to work with children ages birth to 12 years.

This school year I will be teaching Kindergarten and looking forward to a great virtual school year.  Please be mindful that this is a different school year for students, staff, and parents; there will be some changes that may be necessary to make this a great school year for everyone. Please remain flexible as we work together to meet the needs of all learners.

  • Welcome to Kindergarten

Hello Parents/Guardians and welcome to the 2020 - 2021 school year! We are so excited for this new educational journey with you and your students as a part of Onslow Virtual School. We know this is a new experience and we want to make it as easy of a transition as possible.

    Schedule

The schedule for OVS is going to be differe4nt from a normal scholl day. To begin the year, we will spend the first two weeks building community in our classrooms and learning how to navigate the computer programs appropriatiely. We will ease into the full allotted time for daily "live" instruction. There will be at least 90 minutes of "live" instruction for students throughout the day with 90 minutes of independent student worktime.

Do not be overwhelmed with these numbers! The plan is to spend time in an online lesson followed by a break to work on independent work. Students will not be expected to sit in front of a computer for a full 90 minutes at a time. All Kindergarten staff will be allotting the same amount of the for each subject, but as with the regular classroom setting, teachers may alter this schedule to best fit the needs of their class.

     Expectations

All Kindergarten teachere will also have the same expections during "live" sessions. Students will be exdpectied to follow the following: Be prepared, communicate responsibly, be presentable, and electronic responsibility. We will discuss what each expectation entails next week as we are doing lessons with the students.

    Communication

We will be in constant communicatio with you along this journey. Our communication platform will be Class Dojo. Your child's teacher will be giving you more specifics as classes begin. It will take time to learn virtual schooling, but we are here to work with you and help you along the way!

    Supply List

A school supply list has been uploaded to the OVS webpage for kindergarten, students need to make sure to have the following:

    • Pencils
    • Crayons
    • Scissors
    • Headphones
    • Erasers
    • Primary Composition
    • Glue sticks
    • Pencil box
    • Planner (for parents to keep track of work)

A dry erase board and dry erase markers are slways great to have to work out problems as well. Because students will be using iPads, a stylus is suggested, but not required.
