Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Kelly Harris

Hello, my name is Kelly Harris. I graduated in December 2008 with my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from  the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. While in school, I spent time at many different grade levels. I taught a fifth grade class during my internship. I thoroughly enjoyed my learning experiences.

In July 2011, I completed the Masters Degree program in Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

In December 2019, I finished my certificate program to add computer education to my license.

I have 12 years experience working in the education field. I taught Preschool for two years. I decided to leave preschool because I wanted to work in the K-5 grades. I was a substitute for 3 years. I had the privilege of working in most of the elementary schools here in Onslow County. I enjoyed being a substitute because I was able to meet and become friends with a variety of teachers and staff members throughout the county. I was hired to work for many teachers that were out on maternity leave or were sick. I got to experience what it is like to be a teacher in most of the elementary grade levels as a long-term substitute. In 2013 I was hired as a first grade teacher at Summerill Elementary School. Which is where I spent 9 years teaching. I transferred Clear View Elementary for the 2022-2023 school year. It was truly an honor to be part of the opening of our newest school here in Onslow County. Now, that the 2023-2024 school year is upon us I decided to move closer to where I live. With that being said I am now starting my 11th year of teaching at Parkwood Elementary. I am very excited to be a Panda!

Now a little bit about me!

I was born at the old Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune, NC. I have lived in Jacksonville all of my life. I graduated from White Oak High School in 1999.

I am the oldest of three. I have two brothers. My mom and dad live here in Jacksonville.

I have one child. Her name is Brooklyn. She is beginning her SENIOR YEAR at White Oak! She is my reason for breathing. Brooklyn keeps me busy! She is in the percussion section of the marching band at White Oak. She has played lacrosse and cheered at White Oak as well. Last year she was in their musical and is looking forward to participating in this year's musical, The Little Mermaid! We will be busy filling out college applications this year, and impatiently waiting to hear whether she is accepted to her top choices or not!

One of my brothers lives here in Jacksonville, and the other one lives in Virginia.  I have 4 nephews and 1 niece! I love them dearly. Their ages range from 1-13 years old.

One thing I am very passionate about is bowling. I have bowled all of my life. I bowl in a league on Tuesday nights.

I am a secretary for a cheerleading program here in Jacksonville. My daughter has a been part of this program since she was in second grade.

The other thing I am most passionate about is READING!!!! I love to read. When I was younger I struggled with reading, but I practiced and practiced and never gave up. Now I am a very fluent reader, and I would rather stay home and read a book on any given day!
