Mrs. Mary Downs

My name is Mary Downs and I am excited to be teaching second grade!  I graduated from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  I also have several post graduate credit hours from The College of Saint Rose in reading instruction.  Teaching has always been my passion, and I have been teaching at Southwest Elementary School for my entire teaching career.  

I grew up in upstate New York and am married to my high school sweetheart.  My husband, Chris, is a retired Marine.  We have three wonderful children.  All three of my children attended SWES.  Our daughter, Kelsey, is a teacher and she teaches at North Carolina State University.  Our son, Chris, is a chemical engineer and works with renewable energy in Durham.   Danny, our youngest, is a United States Marine and is currently stationed here at Camp Lejeune.  I also have one grandson, who I love to pieces!  We have a very loving dog, named Trigger, and an active puppy, named Theo.  We also have two cats, two cows and several chickens.  The animals keep me busy when I'm not doing things for school!
