Art is a place for children to learn to trust their ides, expand their creativity, and express themselves. In the art room students will work with a variety of materials that range from drawing to painting to ceramics. They will also be introduced to different methods, techniques, and tools used to create art. We will explore the world of art and look at artists throughout history and their work as we develop our own skills in the art room.
I graduated from East Carolina University with my Bachelors and Masters Degree in Art Education. This is my fourth year teaching elementary art and I believe that, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". I love art and I love teaching. I moved to Jacksonville, NC in 2007 where I worked in Early Childhood Education at the Montessori Children's School of Jacksonville in a Preschool classroom for two years. Then I taught at Sand Ridge Elementary for two years before deciding to stay at home with my two young children. I was employed as an Art Appreciation Instructor with Coastal Carolina Community College for two semesters before my husband and I moved overseas to Dublin, Ireland on assignment with the USMC. Then we lived in Kingston Jamaica for eighteen months before moving back to Jacksonville, NC. I love Jacksonville and I am so happy to be teaching the young minds here at Jacksonville Commons Elementary.
"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." -Albert Einstein
