• Dear Parents,

The new school drop off times are 8:10-8:30 am.  The tardy bell rings at 8:30 and you will have to walk your child in.  The dismissal bell is at 3:30.

Most of you have already connected to class dojo.  That is the quickest way to communicate your questions or concerns.  I do check periodically throughout the day for messages and will respond at an appropriate time.

We do have snack every day.  Please send in a healthy snack for your child daily.  If you would like to donate some snacks for those who forget to bring one that would be greatly appreciated.  Make sure if you send in a water bottle that it contains only water.  No juice or flavored water.  They are little and spills occur more often that you might think, and those other beverages will stain the carpet.  We want to keep our classroom looking as fabulous as possible.

Your child will bring home a ‘baggy book’ bag that will include 5-6 books that your child picks out from my library.  They will bring it home on Monday (or their first day) and keep them until the following Monday.  They will get to choose new books if they have their baggy books in their book bags.  The best way to keep up with them is to read the books, let your child look at the books, but keep them in the same safe location so your child will know where to find them.  Reading with your child nightly will help them discover interesting topics, new vocabulary, and develop a love of reading.

There will be weekly homework.  The folder should come back daily in case we have information to send home throughout the week.  I will collect and check on Friday.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out as soon as possible.

I will send a weekly Take Home Folder on Monday, or the first day of the week.  The keep at home side will contain your child’s work and any other communication from the school.  You should check your child’s work in the folder to keep track of what we are learning and how your child is doing.  On the return to school side make sure you sign and return the next day.

Grading for kindergarten is measured by several factors including iReady diagnostic, class work, class observation, mClass assessment, lesson pages, and activities that are based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.  If you have questions or concerns, please contact me as soon as you can.

I am looking forward to an amazing year with your child.  I hope to make it the best possible start to their future educational aspirations!  Together, we can help your child reach their fullest potential.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Jernigan
