Ms. Ferguson's First Grade Class
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Southwest Elementary. I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. I’m excited to be back and am looking forward to a great year. Please take note of the following important items.
Children begin entering the classroom at 7:45 am. Students are considered tardy if arriving after 8:15 a.m. Arriving on time ensures your child gets his/her day off to a strong start and minimizes classroom disruptions for others.
Parents are the most important people in a child’s life, so we need to work together for the benefit of your child. I need your support in my academic, homework and discipline efforts here at school. In return, I will keep you informed about all aspects of your child’s experiences at school. With school and home working together, I know that each and every student can have his or her most successful first grade year.
All teachers at SWES will be using Class Dojo as a communication tool. Your child will use Class Dojo on their remote learning days. This will begin in a few weeks after I establish the rules and procedures with the students. I enjoy using Class Dojo to post pictures of things happening in the class as well.
Remote learning homework/assignments
Students will have homework/assignments on their remote learning days and this will begin week three. Students in cohort A will take the homework folders home on Tuesday and return them on Monday. Students in cohort B will take them home on Friday and return them on Thursday. Please encourage your child to complete all their homework each week.
Every student in first grade will be able to bring a laptop home to help with their remote learning. Once the permission slip is signed and returned, and I feel confident that the students are able to understand the expectations, they will be sent home. This may take several weeks.
There is a $5.00 instructional fee and a $1.00 art supplies fee. There is also a $25.00 1:1 technology assessment fee. The $31.00 should be paid as soon as possible.
Change of clothes
Please send in a change of clothes in case your child needs to change into something clean. The clothes will be stored in their cubby. Soiled clothes will be sent home, in a plastic bag, in their backpack.
Please send a healthy snack to school with your child each day. We will have a snack time each afternoon.
If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me. I can be reached on Class Dojo, by e-mail at email@example.com, or by phone at 910-347-0900. In advance, thank you for your cooperation and all you do to support your child’s learning! I am thrilled to be a part of your child’s academic and social growing experience!
