All About Me
Hello! My name is Michelle Taylor, and I am excited about teaching third grade this year. It's such a huge year for learners; I'm excited to be a part of it! A little about me - I am married to a retired Marine, and we have three children who have all been fortunate to have received most of their education in the Onslow County School System. I have taught in SC, CA, NC, IN!
Education
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Francis Marion University (Florence, SC) in 1992, my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading from Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, AZ) in 2005, and my Masters in School Administration from East Carolina University (Greenville, NC) in May 2018. I am certified to teach birth through sixth grade (all subjects) and Reading grades K – 12. Additionally, I am certified in Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision.
Experience
I began my teaching career in South Carolina, where I taught second grade in a Catholic school. After marrying my husband, we moved to California, where I taught first and second grades in Catholic Schools. After three years, we moved back to South Carolina, where I taught first and second grades for the Department of Defense.
In 2002, I began teaching for Onslow County Schools. My first position was at Queens Creek Elementary. During my six years there, I taught first grade, second grade, fourth grade and was a Reading Specialist. My husband received orders, and we moved away for two years. During that time, we lived in Indiana and I taught middle school Religion for one year and was a Reading Coach for three Title I schools for a year. After retirement, we moved back to Onslow County, and I began teaching at Sand Ridge Elementary. I taught third grade for three years and Kindergarten for two years before moving to Hunters Creek Elementary where I was the Reading Specialist for two years. I then moved to Clyde Erwin Elementary, where I was an instructional coach for four years. I found that I missed working with children, so I returned to HCE to serve as a Reading Specialist, a first grade teacher, a second grade teacher, and now a third grade teacher!
