Dr. Christopher Barnes
As an executive director with Instructional Services, I work with a number of key instructional programs and initiatives including Exceptional Children Services, commonly called “the EC Department.” Outside of EC, I work with arts, global, world language, dual language immersion, virtual learning programs (Onslow Virtual Academy, NC Virtual, OVSS, OVES, remote learning), district accreditation, and special projects as assigned by my direct supervisor, Dr. Beth Folger, OCS Deputy Superintendent. Dr. Folger supervises two other executive directors, Dr. Mark Bulris (Elementary Services) and Mr. Will Laine (Secondary Services) and she leads the instructional efforts of our school district (CLICK HERE FOR THE INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES ORGANIZATION CHART).
Beginning as a student at Trexler Middle School and Richlands High School, I’ve had the opportunity to experience our school system from many perspectives. One of my children is a graduate of White Oak High School. Three other children are students at different grade levels in our system. I began working with OCS more than 25 years ago as a summer maintenance worker, testing assistant, payroll assistant, and print shop assistant. Since that time, I’ve been a high school teacher, assistant principal, and principal. My professional experiences have taken me from the central office to the Richlands area, the Dixon area, the Southwest area, the Jacksonville area, many years in the White Oak area and now back to the central office.
While I don’t have all the answers, I do have a heart to care, ears to listen, and a dedication to working with our students, parents, staff members and others. If I can be of assistance, please reach out directly to me or by way of our administrative assistant, Angela Brown (910-455-2211 ext. 71200).
