Today your child will be coming home with their report card, graded work, and corrections (if they have any).
In your child's report card cover you will find the report card, fees notice (if you have not paid yet), iReady math and reading middle of year diagnostic results, DIBELS testing results, and a Red Robin coupon.
Please check PowerSchool if you have any questions about grades on the report card. You can also check the grades thus far in the third nine weeks.
I will be sending home any corrections that students need to make to improve their grade on the classwork from last week. Students should be checking their mailboxes before they leave to take home their graded work as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Due to benchmark testing, I have decided to push the end of unit test for reading to 2/13/24. I do not want to overwhelm the students this week. Since I will not be taking that as a grade, I have decided to take the assignments from Monday and Tuesday this week. I have made the due dates for these tomorrow to give the students the time in case they need more time on them.
I have attached the updated assignments/due dates schedule.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

As we enter our third nine weeks and second semester, I wanted to send some quick updates! This is a longer email, so please bear with me. 😀
Students will have two new goals these nine weeks. Their math goal is passing their 3's, 4's, 6's and 8's multiplication facts. Their reading goal is completing 12 lessons on their iReady reading pathway with scoring 80% or higher on 10 of those lessons. If they are able to master their goals, they will receive a special prize at the end of the third nine weeks.
Graded papers and the different things on those papers:
-
I have noticed some students are not taking their graded work home out of their mailboxes. I have given multiple reminders to the students, but I will be making sure to really remind those students who tend to forget in the packing up process.
-
On their papers, you will see the grade listed and a stamp (examples: excellent, very good, pass, please correct and return, and parent signature). Please be mindful of the stamps on the papers.
-
If your child receives a paper with the stamp "please correct and return", those corrections can be done at home and then turned in for the average of the two grades. I try to put these in a paper clip to help differentiate between work that can stay at home and work that needs to be looked at and corrected.
-
The only exception to this rule is quizzes/tests. Quizzes/tests will have a "parent signature" stamp where you will need to sign the paper and return it. This way I know you saw what your child has received on their paper, and then if the paper needs corrections, those can be done here at school.
Each week when I send my weekly update, I will include an attachment of the assignments/due dates for the week. Your child should be writing in their agenda everyday their assignments for that day, but this way you can also keep track of due dates for different assignments. I also have this listed on my teacher webpage.
Parents should be checking PowerSchool regularly to make sure your child is staying on top of their assignments. If for some reason you do not have access to PowerSchool, your child has been taught to check PowerSchool on their laptops. In the end, Mrs. Davis, our data manager, can be reached to get that information for you. Her email is billiejo.davis@onslow.k12.nc.us or you can call the school directly.
The third nine weeks tends to be the hardest for students because concepts are getting harder, and we start to review concepts from the beginning of the year to get them ready for the end of grade test. I ask that you please remind your child to stay motivated and positive as we embark on these nine weeks.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Today, I am sending home any corrections that I currently have for students to make. Since this week, we do not have homework, I thought it would be best to send them home. If the corrections are turned in by Friday, I can grade it over the break and get that new score in PowerSchool.
Corrections are allowed to be sent home to complete. If your child has turned in an assignment that was below a 70%, that assignment can have corrections made on them. That assignment can be turned back in for a new grade. The new grade is determined by averaging the grades together. For example, first time 6/10 and second time 10/10, the average 8/10 will be put into PowerSchool. The only assignments that corrections have to made at school are quizzes and tests. We want to make sure these grades truly reflect the student.
Missing assignments have to be completed at school. I have had a handful of students ask for new copies of assignments which is great! I am happy to reprint the assignments to make sure the student can get the best grade for themselves.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Hello Eagles and Families,
Today your child is bringing home their laptop if the proper paperwork has been filled out and signed. I am listing out my rules for the laptops along with school rules:
- Students must be on school-appropriate websites at all times. This applies at school along with at home. Any activity of inappropriate websites will be sent to county office, and the laptop could be taken away completely.
- Students are not allowed to have food or drinks next to the laptop. When your child is eating or drinking, they need to put the laptop away.
- Students are responsible for charging their laptops daily. If a student comes to school with a laptop not charged or does not bring it at all, their consequence will be a fine of Carroll Cash.
- If I catch your student on their laptop when they are not supposed to, it will be a three strikes rule. First time, students will lose laptop privileges for the day. Second time, students will lose laptop privileges for the week. Third time, students will lose laptop privileges for the rest of the year.
- If I catch your student on an inappropriate site at school, the laptop will automatically be taken away.
- Students must keep their laptops in the laptop cubbies I have in my room. This will allow them to not be distracted, and it lowers the risk of them not being on it when they aren't supposed to.
I have gone over these rules with your child today before going home. If you have any questions for me, please let me know. Thank you!
