  • Why Advanced Placement?

High school students across the country and around the world take AP courses and exams to challenge themselves, explore their interests, and earn college credit and placement. AP can give you:

    • A Head Start in High School
      • Get a taste of college-level work while developing the academic skills you’ll need for college success. You might even discover your career path.
    • An Edge in College
      • Your AP Exam scores can earn you college credit before you set foot on campus—and let you skip introductory college courses.

In North Carolina, the fee for an AP exam is paid by the Department of Public Instruction for any student enrolled in an AP course. Course are available to students in Onslow County at all 8 high schools, the North Carolina Virtual Public School or the Onslow Virtual Academy.  Students who earn a score of 3 or higher on the AP exam earn college credit at all NC University System Schools as well as at many other colleges and universities.
