Ms. Kayla Cooney

Hello! My name is Kayla Cooney and I teach choir and piano here at NHS. I am a Jacksonville native, not born but raised here. After graduating high school, I attended Stetson University as a Music with an Outside Field in Business student (essentially a double major in music and business) while also minoring heavily in education. Needless to say, I had no time to go to the beach or Disney World. I moved back to Jacksonville after graduating to share my love for music with other students that may not have the opportunity. Besides working at Northside, I also teach flute privately, run the community flute choir that was established in 2020, and play with local groups such as the community orchestra. I've performed at Peabody Auditorium in Daytona Beach, in the 2013 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, with the Stetson University orchestra and band on various tours, and as a soloist. In what little free time I do have, I enjoy reading, spending time with family, friends, and pets, and gardening. I truly love helping students see the joy that music can bring them and using it to express themselves.
