Greetings Eagle Families,
We are beyond excited to open our doors and hearts to welcome all Eagles to the Forest! We are so honored that you are part of our CFIE family. We know that you are all anxiously awaiting information in regard to the starting days ahead. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we are working to establish cohorts, new schedules and procedures. As you know, this year will not begin in typical fashion due to the constraints of COVID-19. Onslow County Schools will be beginning the year under Plan B. This plan entails students receiving sound instruction through a hybrid model combination of face to face and remote learning from home. Students will be divided into cohorts-Cohort A and Cohort B. Students in Cohort A will attend school, face to face, on Monday and Tuesday beginning August 17th. Students in Cohort B will attend Thursday and Friday beginning August 20th. All students will be participating in remote learning instead of face to face on Wednesdays. On the days when students are not attending school face to face, they will be virtually learning from home. In order to support virtual instruction, ALL OCS students will be issued a device to take home. It is a top priority to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of your child during their assigned cohort days. Included here is a student I.D/ information tag. This tag includes your child’s classroom teacher and assigned cohort. Please fill out the missing information and have your child wear this tag like a necklace the first two days they attend school. This will be essential for assisting your child to his/her classroom.
We have some key changes to our CFIE campus for the 2020-21 school year:
-Everyone is required to wear a mask. Each student will be provided with washable masks and neck gaiters if needed, however any cloth face covering is permitted.
-Only students and essential staff are allowed in the building. We know that this will be a hardship, but we know that everyone in our wonderful community is working with us to keep our children healthy.
-Late Check ins and Early Check Outs: due to limited space and social distancing, you will need to buzz in and wait at the front door. Our receptionist will greet you and assist you accordingly. Please be mindful and know that these processes will take longer.
-Anyone who enters the building, including students, staff and essential visitors, must complete and pass a screening process and temperature check to enter. Anyone whose temperature tests at 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher will not be able to stay at school. Students will be monitored in isolation and a parent contacted to pick up fevered student immediately.
-Classrooms will be deeply sanitized on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Classrooms, bathrooms, high touch areas and materials will be disinfected several times each day.
- No sharing of supplies or equipment. Playground equipment off limits.
-Limited transitions
-Hand sanitizer stations in each classroom with hand washing built into the routine schedule
-Campus and hallway signage to remind students/essential visitors to maintain social distancing; directional arrows in hallways
-All breakfast and lunch items will be individually packaged, and classes will eat in classrooms.
-Water fountains will be closed off therefore students are encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle (preferred clear to allow view of contents).
-Bus riders will not be allowed to ride another bus that is not their assigned bus (as in going to a friend’s house or relative’s house)
Because we are required to screen ALL students prior to their entering the building. We are also required to limit gatherings and group interactions. To accomplish this as best we can, we will be utilizing a new staggered arrival schedule:
*7:30am-7:40am: Walkers and Bikers arrival and screening will take place at the first RED TENT students come to on campus.
*7:40am-7:50am: Bus Riders and Daycare Vans arrival and screening will take place as students exit the bus/van in the front circle driveway. This location is for buses and daycare vans ONLY.
*7:50am-8:00am: Car Riders will arrive in the Car Rider lane located to the left facing our school near the multipurpose room. Students arriving in cars will be screened before they exit vehicle. Car riders will enter through the side doors by the multipurpose room (same entry as last year).
Parents, the luxury of visiting and interacting on school campus with CFIE staff and/or your child’s teacher will not be permitted at this time. To aid in social distancing, conferences with teachers will be held through Microsoft Teams and phone communication.
We will be hosting a Virtual Orientation on Thursday, August 13 at 4:00pm. Information will be provided by your child’s teacher, through our Blackboard Phone Messaging System, our school website, and Facebook. It is extremely important that all families have provided us with and continue to provide us with the most up-to-date information regarding home address, phone number, and email address. You can update information on our school website by clicking on the Student Contact Information update.
ATTENTION CAR RIDERS: In addition to the Virtual Orientation we will be distributing Car Rider tags used for dismissal of any students riding cars home. If you plan to pick your child(ren) up via car, you MUST be registered and have a car/student ID tag before the first afternoon dismissal. We will issue these tags in a drive-up-n-go manner between 2:00-6:00pm on August 13th at the car rider lane to the left of our building.
On your child’s first day of school on campus, they will receive a folder of required forms that need to be completed and returned to school the next day that the student is on campus.
Be sure to stay connected to our CFIE website and the OCS website for up to date information and other school related news.
There are a lot of changes to adapt to for the new school year, but what has not changed is the love, commitment and passion that our CFIE Eagles show daily! As a family of Global Leaders that strongly believe, “In the Pursuit of Excellence, There is No Finish Line”, we are ready to take flight and soar high above the storms of any uncertainty this year may hold. Our goal is to provide top-notch instruction in a safe and healthy learning environment. Our theme for the 2020-21 school year is #Hope In Action. We are Stronger Together, and we look forward to an amazing year with you! Have a wonderful week.
Leading joyfully,
Leanne Ervin
