Ms. Shalyce Barnes

Welcome all! My name is Shalyce Barnes and it is my pleasure to be creating awesome memories with your child(ren) this school year. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY; it has always been a goal of mine to lead by example and be a role model for the young people after me. I found my calling to do that through the arts (dance) and education.

In both middle and high school, I attended a performing arts school as a dance major; therefore, I am a trained dancer in ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and West African. I later graduated and attended Hampton University (Hampton, VA) where I continued to dance and studied Psychology. After graduating with my BA in Psychology, I went on to become a dance instructor for about 2-3 years. After teaching dance in high school as a sub, I realized that I would also do well in the classroom. I returned to school and received my Masters in Special Education 7-12 from The City College of New York, and have been teaching Special Education/EC ever since. I have been teaching for about 8 years now; 4 being here at JCMS.
