This program is a focused combination of academics, drill, athletics, and the uniform. It is designed after the service academies (US Air Force Academy, West Point, and U.S. Naval Academy) and emphasizes student involvement and student leadership. The AFJROTC Program concentrates on developing character. It is open to both males and females, complimenting all phases of the high school curriculum. This program is valuable to any student because it prepares students for the responsibilities he or she will face after high school, whether it be college or the work force. Each year we have been successful in obtaining college ROTC scholarships for top-performing students who wish to pursue a leadership opportunities in the military. Depending on the cadet, he or she can earn medals, awards and ribbons. We have had a quite a few cadets win National-level awards, and recognition by the military.

Cadets must be willing to wear the Air Force uniform, comply with Air Force grooming standards, maintain professional military bearing and demonstrate military customs and courtesies.  Cadets should also be physically capable of marching, standing for long periods of time and participating in physical training. If the cadets believe they will not be able to do this and still wish to participate in the program, they should speak with MSgt Locke. We encourage all cadets to hone their leadership skills for use in any environment.

AFJROTC has a few additional cadet developmental and competitive programs. The Drill Team is a excellent program that helps cadets learn and build their discipline and leadership skills. The Drill Team travels to cities across North Carolina to compete against cadets and military programs. Its a great way for cadets to instill teamwork, meet others and learn more about the program. The cadets who participate in this program earn awards and ribbons. However, the most important thing they will learn on the Drill Team is leadership. The Raider Team learns survival skills, essential in military combat zones. The Raider Team participates in competitions as well. The competitions constist of physical fitness, rope bridges, first aid in the combat zone, and land navigation. They strive for the best times during their events, but the most beneficial part is that all of their competitive events is completed as a TEAM. The cadets learn teamwork, an important part of military or other aspects of life. While one must know how to survive without others, cadets learn how to help as part of a team.

The AFJROTC Program strives to teach everyone about leadership, teamwork, discipline, dedication and citizenship. AFJROTC is like a large family, where students learn about their fellow cadets, their personal weaknesses and strengths and how to leverage that knowledge for the betterment of a team. This program is led by cadets who demonstrate initiative and leadership. If one cadet does not participate and do what is required, it weakens not just the cadet but the entire squadron. AFJROTC is for everyone who has the drive and desire to demonstrate these skills or wishes to learn them. We welcome all new cadets, so if you want to be a part of not only a class but a team and a family, then AFJROTC is for you!
