  • Magnet School Information Sessions

    Parents who are interested in their students attending one of Onslow County School System’s magnet schools are invited to attend an information session with Dr. Brendan Gartner, Director of Student Services.  

    The information session will cover the new online application and lottery process used to select students for two elementary magnet schools and one middle magnet school. Information will also cover the Dual-Language Immersion lottery and selection process as well.  

    Onslow County Schools has three magnet schools: Clyde Erwin Magnet School of International Studies and Cultural Arts, Northwoods Magnet School of Technology and Innovation, and New Bridge Middle Magnet School 

    Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet has two options.  Some lottery slots are available in the Spanish Language Immersion Classrooms and there are some slots available in traditional classroom settings.  Both Clyde Erwin Elementary and Northwoods Elementary Magnet follow a year-round calendar.

    Community Information Sessions will be held on the following dates:

    January 22 - Trexler Middle School -- 6:00 PM -- Trexler Cafeteria

    January 23 - Dixon Middle School -- 6:00 PM -- Dixon Middle Cafeteria

    January 24 -- Jacksonville Commons Middle School - 6:00 PM -- JCMS Cafeteria

    January 25 -- Northwoods Park Middle School -- 6:00 PM - NWPM Cafeteria

    January 29 -- Southwest Middle School -- 6:00 PM -- Southwest Middle Cafeteria

    January 30 -- Hunters Creek Middle School - 6:00 PM -- HCMS Cafeteria

    February 1 -- New Bridge Middle School -- 6:00 PM -- NBMS Cafeteria

    Magnet School applications will be available February 11th, 2019 and will remain available until March 1, 2019.  The lottery selection process will be held at 10:00 am on March 4th, 2019.  

    Open Houses for the magnet schools will be held on February 4, 2019, for New Bridge Middle School and on February 7th, 2019 for both Northwoods Elementary and Clyde Erwin Elementary.  The events will begin at 5:30 PM for all three sites.

    OCSS will announce Dual Language Immersion/Lottery selection at a later date.

  • FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS THROUGH JANUARY 31, 2019 
     
    Students in Onslow County Schools will all be eligible to receive breakfast and lunch free of charge through January 31, 2019

    The OCS Department of Nutrition has been granted an extension from the USDA to continue to offer our students meals at no cost -- and you do not need to fill out an application for your child to enjoy this benefit.  However, beginning on February 1, 2019, all students will return to pre-storm status.  This means students who paid for or were provided meals at a reduced cost will be charged from that time forward.  Students who were receiving meals at no cost before the storm will continue to receive them for free.  If you would like to receive free or reduced meal benefits after January 31, please click on the link to complete an application:

  • OCS Technology Use Featured in Microsoft Video

    Onslow County Schools was recently featured in a video on Microsoft Education’s official YouTube channel. OCS is the number one user of Microsoft Teams for Education in the world, and the video highlights the district’s success with integrating technology into instruction. Teachers and staff across the county use Microsoft Teams and Microsoft OneNote to organize and digitize their classrooms. Featured in the video are staff and students talking about how technology and Microsoft products have improved the learning experience.
