Mrs. Kayla Oler

Welcome! My name is Kayla Oler. My students call me Mrs. Oler or Mrs. O and I am the Art Teacher at Northside High School. I am currently in my 6th year of teaching with this being my 3rd year at Northside after previously being in the Hyde County School System here in NC. I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts with a concentration in Art Eduction and Drawing/Painting from Longwood University in 2015. My personal art is displayed within the permanent collections at Chesapeake City Court House as well as the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. I have been in a multitude of art shows and continue to expand and perfect my craft daily.

I am originally from Chesapeake, Virginia and moved to NC to teach. After meeting my husband, Bryan, we decided to stay in North Carolina. We have one child, Harper, who is 10 months old. We have two dogs, a black lab and german shepherd, and a cat. We enjoy traveling, being out on the water fishing, or hiking at local trails on our days off.

I am so excited to immerse my students in the value and appreciation of art. Art can be extremely therapeutic and is a wonderful way to destress or covey our thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Art like any other subject area takes time and a lot of effort to master. We will be working to enhance each personal ability within my classes and create meaningful artworks while also learning about where these styles come from and why it is important to our culture.
